Since 2006, WWF-Laos has collaborated with communities and government officials in multiple provinces to improve community forest management and strengthen supply chains for responsibly produced rattan and other non-timber forest products (NTFPs), including bamboo, broom grass, and pandanus.
The projects have focused on conserving forests while improving local livelihoods and safeguarding wildlife. Recent efforts have centred on nine communities around Xesap National Park and Phou Xieng Thong National Protected Area. Key activities include promoting the responsible management of community forests, enhancing forest-based livelihoods, and facilitating better knowledge-sharing to strengthen value chains for responsibly produced NTFPs.
